Ralph M. Diaz

Ralph M. Diaz is one of the nation's most respected correctional leaders, bringing more than 30 years of executive leadership, operational expertise, and public safety experience to organizations across the country.

Beginning his career as a Correctional Officer in 1991, Ralph advanced through every leadership rank within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), serving as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Associate Warden, Warden, Regional Administrator, Chief Deputy Secretary, Chief Operations Officer, and ultimately Secretary of CDCR. His career provided him with firsthand experience at every level of correctional operations, giving him a unique understanding of the challenges facing frontline staff, executive leadership, and public agencies alike.

As Secretary, Ralph led the largest state correctional system in the United States, overseeing thousands of employees, billions of dollars in public resources, complex institutional operations, legislative initiatives, and statewide emergency response efforts. Throughout his career, he worked closely with governors, legislators, law enforcement leaders, labor organizations, and criminal justice stakeholders to improve safety, accountability, and organizational performance.

Today, Ralph applies that extensive experience through Diaz Consulting, where he partners with correctional agencies, government organizations, legal professionals, and private clients seeking practical, experience-based solutions. His consulting services include executive leadership development, correctional operations assessments, policy and procedure analysis, expert witness services, organizational reviews, crisis management, staff mentoring, and strategic planning.
